A few years ago I got a bonus for working on a mission called COSMIC. This bonus provided the necessary funds to go ahead and start my (ahem, first) L3 Certification project. A year later, I flew COSMICThing at a ROCStock and it suffered a “sub-optimal” landing, basically destroying the rocket. Undaunted, I came back 18 months later with COSMICThing II, a rebuild of the first with a couple of simplifications and a foot longer (just to be bigger). At 17’ tall, 12” in diameter, and 108 lbs, dry, it was quite the rocket to haul around. Well, COSMICThing II also suffered a “sub-optimal” landing shaking my faith in my ability to actually fly rockets. Of course I also took the opportunity to start my third L3 rocket attempt, “Bittersweet”. I’m sure that since I still have the fin-can, electronics bay, and nosecone, COSMICThing will return one day!
